Headstone Re-Lettering in New Plymouth & Taranaki
About us
Granite Headstone Re-Lettering in Taranaki
Cemetery Cleaners provides professional headstone lettering services in New Plymouth, Taumarunui, and throughout Taranaki.
Over time, inscriptions on granite, marble, and concrete headstones can fade due to weather exposure, lichen growth, and age.
We carefully restore engraved lettering so names, dates, and memorial messages remain clear and respectful.
After the headstone is cleaned of any moss growth, two coats of undercoat are carefully applied to the lettering.
When dry, a final coat of silver or white is applied to lettering on memorials of all sizes.
If additional colour is needed for images, the final coat of colour is carefully painted and left overnight to dry.
The final step is carefully cutting the granite using a soft pumice stone with water to remove excess paint while leaving the lettering clean and sharp.
Whether your family requires minor touch-ups or full inscription repainting, our work is carried out with precision and care to preserve the integrity of the original memorial.
If you are unsure whether your headstone requires full re-lettering or professional cleaning first, we are happy to assess the memorial and provide a free quote.
Our goal is to ensure every inscription remains legible, dignified, and preserved for future generations.
Based in New Plymouth, we work in cemeteries across Waitara, Inglewood, Stratford, Hawera, Taumarunui and surrounding Taranaki areas.
Families throughout the region trust us for respectful grave restoration and long-lasting inscription renewal.
The grave site concrete base can also be painted in any colour if required.
White Marble
White Marble Headstone Re Lettering
After the white marble headstone is cleaned with suitable chemicals, the remaining lead lettering is inspected for loose or missing letters and carefully panel beaten back into place using a soft hammer.
Over time the marble stone erodes and the lead lettering can become loose and begin to peel or drop out.
The art of replacing missing lead letters is nearly lost, but there is a process that helps restore the inscription to a clear and readable condition.
This process of painting missing letters is similar to granite re-lettering, except the porous nature of marble usually requires only one or two coats of paint.
Using this technique, older marble headstones can be made presentable again.
Your family gravesite will look like new again.
